Procedure for Organizing a New Lions Club

  1. The club should pass a resolution regarding their intention to sponsor a new lion club. A copy of this resolution should then be forwarded to the District Governor and the south Asian Secretariat who will send the sponsoring club a set of Extn. Forms 1, 2, & 3.
  2. The sponsoring club must then form an extension committee. Extension form no.1 should be filled up and mailed to the south Asian secretariat with copies to the district governor and district extension committee chairman.
  3. On receipt of the extension form no.1 the south Asian secretariat will mail a set of organization supplies intended to aid the sponsoring club in their extension work.
  4. At this stage the sponsoring club should move into a new territory. They should contact prominent persons in the area and speak to them at length on lionism.
  5. Having obtained the consent of a minimum of 20 to become Members the Extension Committee should then hold at least three Meetings with these 20 people in which they should explain in Detail the working of Lions Clubs, its purpose and the objects and Code of ethics of Lion Clubs International.
  6. Further they should inform the intended members about the International dues, District and Multiple District Dues and the duties of each and every officer of the club.
  7. During the three meetings with the prospective members the sponsoring club should guide them with regard to activities and fund raising programmes as also records that have to be maintained by Lions Clubs.
  8. Having Completed all these formalities, the sponsoring club should them fill in extension form no.2 giving all details together with a Demand Draft covering the entrance fees of the new members calculated at the rate of US $30.00 per charter member and mail it to the South Asian Secretariat (the fees must be calculate at the ruling rate of exchange) this cheque or Bank draft should be made payable to the International Association of Lions Club, Mumbai.
  9. On receipt of Extension form no.2 the South Asian Secretariat after consulting the District Governor, will give dates for inauguration of the Club.
  10. At the inaugural meeting, the Board of Directors of the new Club should have a meeting for at least an Hour, before the commencement of the inaugural function. At this meeting the representative of Lions Club International will present the inauguration kit and explain at length the duties of each Club Officer as well as the working of the Club.
  11. After the inauguration meeting the Sponsoring Club should have attend at least three meetings of new Club. It also advisable to invite the members of the sponsoring club.
  12. Lions International will then mail the Charter of the New Club to the District Governor. Charter presentation will be done by the District Governor himself.
  13. After the the charter presentation is over the sponsoring Club should fill up Extension form No.3 in all details and mail it to the South Asian Secretariat who will in turn write to the Headquarters requesting them to send the sponsor’s patch for the sponsoring Lions Club.

Note:
Additional Charter members can be taken in by a new Lions Club within 90 days from the date of approval of the charter by the International Headquarters or before the charter presentation date.
