Hailing from a prominent wholesale jewellers’ family of Amritsar, Lion K. K. Verma had a brilliant academic record- he twice stood 2nd in Punjab State and University, and 1st in Amritsar. He got his Honours degree in Mathematics and M.Sc. from DAV College, Amritsar.

He joined General Insurance Corporation of India as a direct Class- 1 Officer at Mumbai and is presently Chief Regional Manager, United India Insurance Co. Ltd at Ludhiana, controlling Punjab State. In 1990, he won the S.K. Desai Memorial Gold Medal, which is the highest award in the insurance industry- both life and non-life, for his research on “Loss Minimization in Motor”.

Lion Verma is closely associated with the professional bodies and insurance education and training. He has been Secretary, Amritsar Insurance Institute, Council Member, Federation of Insurance Institutesof India, Mumbai and President of Chandigarh Unit of General Insurance Officers’ All India Association.

He is a keen philatelist as well. He is the founder Secretary-General of North India Philatelists’ Association (Regd), has been the President of Amritsar Philatelic Club, Council Member of Philatelic Congress of India; and has been actively assisting the Postal Department in successful holding of several State and District level exhibitions since 1976.

Lion Verma joined Lionism as a member of LC Amritsar in January 1980. He has been the best Bulletin Editor, Best Secretary, Best President, outstanding Zone Chairman and District Chairperson of not only district 321-D and 321-F, but of Multiple 321. He has received following awards from International President: Club President’s Excellence award, 6 Appreciation awards, 3 diamond Pin awards, 5 Extension awards, 12 membership Key awards, including the Key of National, Guiding Lion award, Three-in-one award, District Chairman, Leo Clubs Achievement medal, for his distinguished services and outstanding performance over the years. Lion Verma organized 3 very successful District level seminars- SURYA-98: LCIF seminar at Bal Bhawan, Chandigarh, OPPORTUNITY-99: Joint Installation cum schooling of 23 Leo Clubs, and Cabinet meeting at Amar Ashram, Patiala; and PRAGATI-2007: MERL seminar at Nagpal Resorts, Ludhiana. Lion Verma is fondly recognized for real brotherhood, excellent fellowship eminent speakers and meticulous planning in holding all the seminars. Lion Verma was elected as the Vice District Governor of the biggest Districts of India with a record margin of 132 votes.

Lion Verma is a 2-diamonds Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow, and his family is the only all-MJF family of our District. He is happily married to Lion Jaya, and is blessed with a daughter Neetika, a PCS (Judicial) officer, presently posted as Civil Judge cum Judicial Magistrate at Jalandhar; and son Romit, who is pursuing a course in interior designing.
